Still on the quest

I'm still investigating colour management as I mentioned (!) to you yesterday. I don't give up easily - an old boss of mine once said to me "..there's no such thing as can't, Gail. You mean you won't.." That's kind of stuck with me because he's right - there's almost always a way, it's just a case of finding it. Mind you I haven't found a way to get back the photo for today that I accidently deleted from my camera!! Oh well.... back to the colour management.

I resisted yesterday but here goes... The only way to get a properly colour managed workflow is to invest in three (minimum) items. 1) A monitor calibration tool. 2) A correctly printed reference picture with accompanying JPEG or TIFF file so that you can confirm the tool in 1) has worked. 3) A printer profiler that will ensure the printer makes something that looks like 2) and your correctly calibrated monitor.

This assumes of course that Photobox are correctly colour managed too... There is no halfway house really, if you have a home setup that works for you, remember the settings. Trying to compromise on the three things above leads to confusion and frustration!! It's a minefield.

Epson has a very good on line course in digital work including printing, management and a lot of work in Photoshop. You get a lesson a day for 12 weeks and you can call them up and review them when you want from your own computer. PC only

hee hee your boss sounds like DM and my Dad - they just goad you into getting there!!!

as for the lost pic - you can get a recovery programme that David bought online that recovers deleted files from disks - he successfully recovered something he'd deleted about three months earlier. I'll find out what it's called and pmail you.
