Sandy, I assume you might mean the Olympus B-macro(?)
The Nikon4T I used will focus around the 10" to 13" range; it's a 2.9 diopter. I don't know how that compares to the B-macro, but there should be a distance range where the camera will easily focus. Try putting the filter on, zooming in, and moving closer and further until you see a decent focus, then press to focus exactly.

So you had this full telephoto and with the close up filter - how far away from the yellow jacket were you standing? I have not had any luck with my Olympus B300 close up lens - I obviously am not doing something right. I lent this lens/filter to Tom - I need some lesons :(
