Thanks Gary. This is already a minor crop, but I didn't play with cropping just the lightning. You're right of course when you talk about coming back to it & having another look. I have now taken various crops, both horizontal & vertical, & will come back to them later & see which one stands out as the best.
Another hint for anyone trying these longer exposures via street light in a similar way to this photo where the light is actually shining on the lens at the front, use the lens hood to avoid the orange lighting effect on the top left corner of this photo. There are also other areas in the photo showing this issue which also increases the amount of noise visible in the photo.
Cheers Richard

Nice catch; I imagine it's exciting when you have the shutter open and the lightning strikes, knowing you "caught it".
I'm wondering how this would look cropped so that just the fence in the foreground shows, no shed or trees, and cutting out some of the dark clouds on top (?). That's one of the advantages of having more megapixels than we need, we can experiment with cropping and still have enough pixels. Sometimes I'll try 2 or 3 different crops and still aren't sure which I like; in which case I come back later for a fresh look.
