GaryK

I have been wanting to get a clear view of a Pileated woodpecker for years (decades?). Pileated woodpeckers are large (about the size of a crow), very shy and (for those of a certain age) are the model for Woody Woodpecker of cartoon fame. This female (?) was pounding the bark in the shade, for which I set my camera, then flew right out into the morning sun; hence the blown out portions of the photograph.

Great job, Gary. You got such a clear shot of the face and eye too. Congratulations!

Blown out? So what! At least you had the sense to shoot first, adjust camera later. Many glimpses of animals are missed because we fiddle with a setting while the animal moves on.

Good job. I have only seen one of these in the wild and that's over 70 years. LOL

Very good job and thanks for sharing this bird-I'am sure-could make a career with Disney.
