Rogerio Maciel

"Profile of a tired parrot"

I like to take pictures at the zoos. It amazes me the diversity of colours and expressions you can see there. However, sometimes it's interesting to observe how tired and stressed an animal can get after months (years maybe) in a cage. That's the moment I tried to transmit with this picture.

This is not intended to be a prize-winning picture (far from that - this parrot is quite ugly), but an observation of how difficult it must be to be in a cage, for ages, without seeing the outside world.

Nice detail in your shot, Rogerio, and good job with the background too. I am wondering if the parrot is just old? Very sad if it is being mistreated.

Amazing detail. You have captured very well the sad state of this creature. Very moving. Gigs

Although I understand your intention I think you have chosen the wrong species for your message, because birds are completely expressionless and normally don't invoke very warm feelings with us humans. And, btw, it is quite possible to create prize-winning pictures of ugly subjects. A beautiful subject alone frequently produces potographically spoken very boring photos, in spite of the many 'aah's and 'ooh's from the unititiated audience ;-)). Johan
