These are freshly hatched Killdeer. Its so odd that these birds would lay eggs in the middle of an RV park on the gravel drive. The owner but traffic cones around the eggs. What amazed me was that the morning after they hatched they were running all over the park. You can see 2 babies I think and one speckled egg.

Incredible! The babies look like the egg! What a wonderful opportunity to see them up close. Funny birds. I found some nesting in the middle of a public garden. Parents did the broken wing act when people came close. Cindy C

Oh my goodness, what a great shot! I can't believe you got so close (even with the zoom). Great detail! ~ Ang

What an incredible shot... They are weird bird indeed... We saw them when we taught they would next in the stones on the roof of the school building and then as their young were fledging they would pretend they were injured with a broken wing to distract you from the young. I love the contrast between the parent bird's plummage and the chicks... Carm

Linda, this is awesome! I can't believe you could get so close (even though I see you are zoomed out). Killdeer have always been quite shy in my encounters. Man what huge feet they have too - no wonder they could run so well so soon!
