Linda Stock

Bradenton FL

I caught this guy rolling over on its back. There is another Manatee under the surface by its face. The manatee's have been playing in our canal lately. They are very active, even after dark. Sometimes the water is just spinning and churning. I tend to think its youngsters as they love to play.

If you just saw the tip of the nose with the two holes, and didn't know what you were looking at, it would be a puzzler.

Yes the Manatee is a rare thing, however we are lucky to have them in our canal every year. There are only approx. 2500 of them in existence in Florida and the red tide killed 41 of them this year. So sad. They are gentle creatures and I must admit to snorkeling with one once. It stayed for an hour allowing touching and investigation. I feel blessed to be a part of it.

Rare capture, hhu? Manatees are endangered aren't they? Looks like they are having fun. Cindy C

Strange looking creatures, and you're lucky to have them so near. Bea.
