Bee condo

Sandy built this beautiful bee condo over the summer and it is already attracting attention from the insect world. Several Agapostemon sweat bees were hanging around the cup-plant stems (in between the two green bits of wood). Several of us saw this neat article: http://inspirationgreen.com/insect-habitats.html back in the winter, and got quite interested in the creative and beautiful designs from across Europe and North America, built by folk who want to help attract beneficial bees and other insects. As you can see, there is a variety of material in this one, from coniferous cones, to hollow stems of plants such as cup-plant, to straw, bricks, and so on, to accommodate a variety of insect needs.
