Large thistle weevil (Cleonis piger)

These are very large weevils, this one measuring about 14mm. They were introduced into North America sometime prior to 1919, according to Bug Guide. Their host plants are thistles, burdock, knapweed, so one wonders if they are effective at controlling these plants.
