Black-capped chickadee with sumac

There are not many sumac stands still with seed heads or "cones" left at FWG this winter. Those that have the seedheads have been pretty well picked clean. This one in the BYG has some seed heads, many well picked apart. The chickadees were very busy at them, as can be seen by this one.

I am surprised that any animal eats sumac. I haven't looked at sumac closely, but it seems like an animal eating sumac would end up with a belly full of fuzz, which would be unpleasant. Nonetheless, I have always wanted to photograph a chickadee eating sumac like this in the winter (because red is such a rare color this time of year) but haven't succeeded. I quite like this shot!
