American bittern

One afternoon, in August 2008, I was standing at the pond looking over the water when, to my astonishment, an American Bittern suddenly appeared from the vegetation. I watched as it crept along the shoreline, occasionally stopping as here, to stand it its typical bittern pose. It was difficult to get a good angle from which to take photographs. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted all the photos I did take, except for a couple, of which this very poor one was the best. I include it here only for interest's sake.

Wow! I can't believe you call this "very poor"! This is a really good capture of this difficult and elusive species.
