New-York & Washington DC, August 2010

A short trip to visit museums. Just want to tease you as these museums in New York and Washington DC are very much worth a visit. On top of this you may visit some NY museums for free if you have an IBM badge (w3.ibm.com and look for the info under IBM Club). Most of Washington's are free. The Phillips collection is small fee for the quality of works presented (www.phillipscollection.org).

The Cloisters, linked to the MET. Take the A until the very North West of Manhattan, then walk along Margot Cortin and cross a lovely park.

There is something with Miro's sculptures. I found the same in the garden of the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington. This one is between the MoMa and Central Park.

The MoMA, or Museum of Modern Art, a must when you visit NY.
Kandinsky's always attracting a lot of attention. How could it not be?

This Monet is the largest painting from him I have seen so far. There is another one in the opposite wall. An experience not to be described in a small screen or printed picture.

The four Rothko's of the Phillips colection are among the nicest I know. And very well displayed (low light, no more than 8 persons in the room).

Temporary collection. No pictures. Very impressive though. I ended up with almost tears in my eyes and a sudden feeling of happiness. Just tampered by the sadness to realize that he died at 34 only.

Hiroshi Sugimoto. A discovery. Amazing what he can do with an 8x10. I'd love to work with such a camera. But I almost broke my back with half my Nikon D700 set. So guess what? an 8x10 is typically more than 15 kg with material. Still this is between painting and photography. I love it.

There are no pictures of the Corcoran Gallery of Art because the long evening is on Thrusday. And I missed it because I was too tired on Thrusday and too late on Friday. Next time.
