Finland, September 2013

One great week visiting friends and their property in an island located at a 2 hours drive from Helsinki.
Even though the island is basically a block of granite there are enough trees and forests to figure it as a mushroom's mine. And a feeling of being in paradise.
Except maybe for the does that would be welcome in Switzerland but are a nuisance here as they are so many and eat all your garden's plants.
Inside the Kiasma Museum for Modern Art in Helsinki. Not a lot to see, but the building itself deserves a visit.

To reach the island we need to take a ferry. Luckily only one as a few years there were two. Now the first one has been replaced by a bridge.

Now, after the house they bought a wooden path and this pontoon to access their boat.

The beach, a bit less used since the pontoon is even better. Please note the garden swing-seat in the back.

The sea here looks almost like a lake. But it's actually the sea with many islands around.

Back to the island and its amazing nature. On the island there are some 150 properties covering almost all the bank, leaving very little space for tourists. This is for example the entrance of one of those property. The number corresponds to the number of decameters from the begin of the road. Usually you will find a mokki, and sometimes another larger house for leaving with more modern conveniences.

When I say mushroom, I mean it. They were delicious.

This tree in the middle of the road leading to the ferry is the island's landmark. Please note the woodpecker holes.
