So I missed a day already...big whoop...

Blew it already...missed Monday. Whatever with you...just kidding.

Anyways...took Ian out into the yard this afternoon for a side by side test of the Expodisc WB
tool and the Photovision Digital WB/Exposure Target.

I had Ian hold the Photovision target at his face level where I was going to take his portrait.
I set the exposure manually using the camera meter and I snapped a shot of it. I spun around
and with the Expodisc over the lens grabbed another frame using the same exposure reading. I
then proceeded to fire off 4-5 frames of Ian cheesing it up for the old man.

I imported the sample frames into Adobe Camera RAW using my default settings, and using the
eyedropper tool, simply took 3 random samples around the center of the frame.

Photovision Digital Target:
1) 5700/0
2) 5700/+2
3) 5800/+3

Expodisc:
1) 5950/-3
2) 5950/-1
3) 5950/-2

I ran the file both ways and you CAN see the slight difference that a few hundred kelvin can
make, but both tools provided more than acceptable white balance settings. I felt the expodisc
setting was slightly warm for my style, but I literally had to overlay one file over the other
and click the layer on and off about 20 times to really make that call.

The thing I like about the digital target most is that your subject holds it and you fire your
reference frame from where you are going to shoot from. They drop the target and you fire away.
With the Expodisc, you really should walk over to where they are standing to take the WB
reference frame as the light reflecting on them is different than where you might be standing.
Especially if you are using a reflector on your subjects. Plus the black, gray, and white
panels allow you to set the exposure manually and lock it, again, from where you are standing.
Not having to run over with your hand held meter and take a new incident reading every time the
lighting changes.

Tomorrow I'll try and snag an outdoor shot of Eli. And since he's walking now, this should prove to be a challenge. ;)

Great shot. I see the teeth are grown in. Thank you John.

I just ordered another target. It is definitely easier than the expodisc....and faster too. Especially when I am chasing a three year old. Sweet shot. He is so big.
