Fourteen Years: Part II

I played hookie today. =) I had a vacation day left to burn this year, so I took advantage of that this morning, after only getting about 3 hours of sleep last night. Margaret let me sleep in this morning, how nice of her, and we spent the rest of the afternoon running around town doing errands. It was a really nice day.

This shot was actually Margaret's idea. When I asked her the other day about an anniversary portrait, I said we could either pose for a photo together, or she could give me our rings and I would come up with a neat still life. She had mentioned that we had already done a ring shot, so she agreed to the portrait.

This must have started the creative juices flowing though. Today, she suggested that we place our rings somehow in the petals of the roses that I had bought for her anniversary gift. We set the arrangement in front of the kitchen window and shot it with natural light. It turned out pretty nice, but I think this might have been one time when using a softbox from above would have produced better lighting. There are just too many surfaces to reflect glare back into the lens from this angle. I can imagine that photographers that shoot jewlery for a living make decent money.

Looks like the Weatherbug is beeping at me again. We're supposed to get 6-9" of snow and ice starting Thursday afternoon. Great. Hmmm...maybe we'll finally get to our movie night after all, if we end up getting snowed in. ;)

I really like this image. The touch of green to the left helps it out. Yeah jewelry bounces the light all over the place...
