Tom and I are visiting Hovedøya island, one of the main islands off the coast of Oslo, in the Oslo Fjord.

The Cistercian monastery was built on the island, and opened on May 18 1147.
After the abbot came into conflict with King Christian II,
he was imprisoned and the monastery was looted and burned down in 1532.
The ruins of the monastery remain on the island.
