Legend has it that in the 14th century, at the time of Duke Algirdas,
seven Franciscan monks, who had arrived to convert Lithuanians to Christianity,
were hacked to pieces by pagans.
The monks were buried on this hill, and then a chapel was built here,
to be later replaced by crosses.
