Dalmation Toadflax

Linaria genistifolia ssp. dalmatica

Description. Toadflax is an aggressive spreading weed, imported from Europe. It grows 40-120cm (16-48”) high, and has leafed branching stems that support the yellow Snapdragon looking blooms. The plant likes to settle into disturbed soil areas but unfortunatelly will also grow anywhere. It can be found growing in the dry open pine and fir forests, and even in some domestic gardens!

Historical plant use. None found, although Common Toadflax might have been used to treat boils.

Unusual aspects of this plant. The plant spreads from both seeds and underground creeping roots. In an attempt to eradicate Toadflax, pulling the plant will not solve the problem, the remaining roots will sprout into new plants.
