Looking toward ground level and the nave.

The yellow rectangular structure beneath the windows in the nave is a feature added by the Ottoman sultans after the conquest of Istanbul in 1453. At that point it was converted into a mosque. As you look at it, the structure on the left of the nave is the Sultans loge (built by Italian/Swiss architects during a major restoration in 1847-49) on the right is the pulpit or minbar.
