Clear Lake

Clear Lake (DeSoto Parish) has been overgrown by invasive salvinia for about 5 years. (Other local lakes are infested to varying degrees.)

The cypress trees in the foreground are standing in about 6 feet of water. Thick salvinia growth at the water's surface is providing a platform for grasses to grow.

North Louisiana winters are too cold for the salvinia weevil to survive, thus negating a critical biological control. Short of the development of a cold hardy salvinia weevil, control of salvinia seems remote.

I agree with Phil. This is still a great photo. The touches of autumn in the cypress are spot on. Vote.

Beautiful image Fred! Salvinia scourge or not, this is a lovely scene. V
