Bayou Chemin-A-Haut

The cypress knees around this specimen reach about 10 feet in height. (An old guy was inserted for scale.) The site is about a mile northwest of Bayou Chemin-A-Haut's confluence with Bayou Bartholomew. The water level for the two bayous can rise dramatically following local rains. Ten days earlier the tree was in 5 feet of water.

Biggest Knees I've ever seen. And I live by the swamp. Fred, you look as majestic and the tree! Great websight to visit. Beautiful photos and a little history mixed with it.

This is really an impressive specimen, Fred. I know I've never seen cypress knees this tall before. Great idea using a friend for scale. Vote.

Yes, Bayou Chemin-A-Haut does have some magnificent cypress. The old guy was gasping for air after slogging up the bayou in an attempt to get a few photos before sunrise.

Magnificent specimen - not the old guy - the tree.
