White-card-test.jpg

Fairport, NY

I decided to see if there was much difference between camera white balance
and using a white card to set a custom white balance. For the image on the left
I used a white envelope to set a custom white balance. The image on the right
I used the camera setting of daylight white balance.

I'd pick the left image; I like the rusty-brown tones of the wooded areas better; also, I think the December sky is more natural looking as well

The one on the left. I will be in the area the middle of next week but not sure the conditions will be the same by then.

ditto Julie's comment. I would like to see a comparison using a gray card, versus White card, versus white piece of paper. You feeling ambitious? ;-)

Which one matched the actual scene better?

I like the colors on the left. They seem more saturated.
