12 January 2006

Oooh, come on, you knew this shot was coming as soon as I posted pictures with my newly-bought tulips last week. :) It's not that I want to get maximum use out of the flowers, it's that I'm fascinated by the almost-done ones at least as much as by the ones in their prime.

Post-processing today was inspired by one of the shots Ben posted in his PAD yesterday (even though the subject matter is totally different). After the usual rotation (when will I learn to hold the camera straight?) and levels, I duplicated the layer, sepia-toned it and then set the opacity to 50%. That resulted in the more muted colors which I thought would go well with the past-its-prime tulip.

And who noticed that the petal next to the vase didn't come from this flower? LOL

this is a beautiful shot.
usually the flower makes the shot when it's in full bloom, in this case,
the flower and whole composition seem to tell a story..
very nice.

This is so beautiful. I love the low saturation and the soft tan background. Everything works well together. A nice piece of art.

Wow - this has wonderful tone to it. Your 50% sepia worked wonderfully. The dying flower is also tremendous, it has been used for centuries in art to symbolize the transience of beauty, the futility of vanity, or the precarious nature of existence itself. This is all of those - I have a lot to learn from you!
