"Decoration Day"
When I was young my mother and grandmother would cut flowers around the house and load them up in the '55 Pontiac along with assorted Mason jars, tin cans and tin foil. They would then go to cemeteries in Vanceburg and Maysville (KY) and decorate all the family graves. Absolutely nothing was store-bought. This morning I cut flowers around my house and went to an old cemetery nearby to decorate a grave. There has not been a burial in this cemetery in 100 years. The families are all gone and no graves are ever decorated . . . not a single grave. Each year I select a headstone near the center of the cemetery and leave my cut flowers behind in a mason jar to "decorate" all the graves . . . the old fashioned way.
