Total lunar eclipse with a coppery glow, attributed to sunlight bent by earth's atmosphere around the curvature of Earth. The "bluish" star to the right is Spica, the brightest star in the constellation Virgo. We enjoyed near-perfect conditions for observing this rare occurrence in the Western Hemisphere from our backyard. Best news is that this total eclipse will occur three more times in the near future: Oct 8 this year, and April 4 and Sept. 28 in 2015. Great opportunity for photographic experimentation.
