Borrego Springs Desert Sculptures

A few years ago Dennis Avery, land owner of Galleta Meadows Estates in Borrego Springs. southeastern California, started collecting steel welded sculptures of ancient creatures to place around his desert property. He commissioned artist Ricardo Breceda to first create the metal figures of long-extinct creatures who once considered this home. Since then, the landscape now includes sculptures of current inhabitants such as camels,llamas,horses, and humans. If you look carefully, you'll find about 130 sculptures.

A lot of folks come out to Borrego desert each spring to see the beautiful wildflowers. Many are surprised to come across these strange creatures raising their heads in the distance. When you get close enough to see and study their features, it's hard not feel a presence of something much more than rusting metal.
