THE HISTORY BEHIND THE CAR.

The car is an Auburn 851 SC speedster with a straight eight cylinder 3.6 litre engine fitted with a supercharger. Transmission, 3 speed manual. It was built in 1935 and is only one of eight built in right hand drive, and the only Auburn built known to have been supplied to the Phillipines. It was purchased new by a wealthy land owner in his bid to win the hand of a Philipeane Socialite. During conversation he asked her what she would like most in the world, she announced that she would love a sports car that was capable of over 100 miles per hour. He promptly ordered the Auburn which is stamped on the dashboard as having been test driven at over 100mph.
During the Japanese occupation of WW11 the owner of the Auburn constantly removed parts from the car in order to prevent the Japanese taking the car and it was eventually hidden under mountains of rice where it remained until after the war. The car was used for a number of years around the farm until it was discovered in 1972 by an English man. He purchased the car and it was sent to Hampshire where it underwent a total restoration. It remained in the UK until 2000 when it was shipped to America to auction. It was auctioned again at Amelia Island in Florida in March 2005 where it was purchased by its current owner who is the fifth recorded owner of the car.
