Detector system used for my new setup_2009 to capture insects in-flight. An AVR controller ATtiny45 is used to measure the environment light and the IR laserlight. The difference between this 2 values give my information to see if an insects is in focus. The scantime is 2x 20 usec or 40usec in total. The values are transfered via a SPI protocol at high datarate to the CPLD controller. This controller send the commands to the D200 Nikon camera and drive the external shutter and the flashes at the right time. This detector is build into a second lens, the AF200/4D micro. Herewith i can set the focus point from very close to more then 1 m. The surface of the insect at the focuspoint need only 1 a 2 mm and even a black insect give full detection if the sensivity is set at max. This detector works also in full sunlight.
