As soon as we got to Juneau, we made a beeline to the Mendenhall Glacier. We were much more interested in seeing what nature had to offer than watching a 4th of July parade in Juneau. The lake in front of this glacier was covered by the glacier itself 30 years ago. Global climate change is taking this glacier rapidly back up hill. The extreme high and low latitudes are much more severely affected by global warming than midlatitude parts of the world, and we came across many Alaskans who were eager to let us folks from the lower 48 know that their changes are both real and disturbing.
