After Surgery
Here I am, back in my room after surgery. Still have all the tubes, etc, hooked up to me. I was aware but sedated. Didn't realize our daughter, Angie, shot this with my iPhone. Another daughter, Katy, and a nurse are beside the bed. So yep, I did get a picture!

Northern Flicker
This flicker was perched on a limb of a dead tree in Alton Baker Park
I will be out of commission for a while, so won't be posting pictures until I can be back online. I go into the hospital tomorrow at 5:00 AM for open heart surgery. As soon as I am able, I will be anxious to browse the images of others.

Sing Me a Song!
This red-wing blackbird I saw at Delta Ponds was busy singing and didn't notice me creeping closer and closer. Having my 80-400 VR mounted helped to bring it closer. I was thrilled to get this shot.

My Conquest!
I thought this moss covered tree in Delta Ponds was quite beautiful. So I captured it! It didn't even put up a fight, but rather submitted quietly! It was quite a conquest!

Here Comes The Coast Starlight
The Amtrak Coast Starlight runs between Los Angeles and Seattle through some beautiful scenery. Amtrak calls it "A Grand West Coast Train Adventure"
"En route daily between Los Angeles and Seattle, the Coast Starlight train passes through the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Barbara, Sacramento and Portland. Widely regarded as one of the most spectacular of all train routes, the Coast Starlight links the greatest cities on the West Coast.
The scenery along the Coast Starlight route is unsurpassed. The dramatic snow-covered peaks of the Cascade Range and Mount Shasta, lush forests, fertile valleys and long stretches of Pacific Ocean shoreline provide a stunning backdrop for your journey."

Through The Looking Glass
While waiting for Carol at the doctor's office, I came face to face with this fish in their aquarium. The glass was dirty and gave it a soft, painterly effect. Still, I liked the result, even if it isn't very sharp. It was a faceoff!

The Last Days of Winter - Japonica
Spring is certainly showing its face here in Oregon, though it appears other parts of the country are still experiencing winter's blasts. It is true, our frosty mornings have burned our rhododendron blossoms. But on this second to last day of winter (officially), other bushes are blossoming out beautifully, as is this one.

Carol and Me, and an Elk
We made the trek to Portland today for my semi-annual eye exam at the Casey Eye Institute. Our daughter went along to drive us home. She shot this picture of us with the elk statue outside the building.
The appointment went well. The growth in my left eye has continued to get smaller. And the eye looks good, according to the doctor. More photographs and an ultra-sound were done. I have a cataract in that eye that the radiation treatment caused to grow faster. The doctor here will do the surgery to remove that in the future. A more pressing need is surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm. An artificial section will be grafted in. I have had two heart doctors look at it and both feel surgery should be done very soon, because of the size of the aneurysm.

Fantastic Flower
This fantastic flower has such delightful colors. The orange, white and purple just pop! Perhaps someone will provide the flower's name. I am not sure what it is. It's too pretty to be the unknown flower. Could it be a crocus?

Wired!
Have you ever really thought about all the wires that run along our roads, like these along Jasper/Lowell Road? Millions of miles of wire must circle the earth like the winding of an armature! Add to this all of the power lines that dot the landscape. Wouldn't it be nice if electricity and communication waves could be broadcast without the need of wires? Someday!

Gateway Pedestrian Bridge
It was pretty wet out this morning. But the wet surfaces helped me get some great reflections on the Gateway Pedestrian Bridge that crosses over I-5 between Eugene and Springfield, OR.
"The Gateway Pedestrian Bridge is not only a breathtaking signature structure, but in one of the United States' top ten bicycling cities, it is also a vital multi-modal transportation link. The bridge connects Eugene neighborhoods west of the freeway to a regional commercial district located east of the freeway in Springfield." (Quote from OBEC Consulting Engineers -
