Look At Those Long Legs!
I happened to catch a fly on a rose at the Owens Rose Gardens and was impressed with its long legs. :) Yes, there are still a few roses and other flowers there, but the recent heavy rains just about did them all in. This rose still shows its colors, which proves that flies appreciate pretty colors as much as we do!

Watching My Buddy GBH Land at Delta Ponds
While visiting Delta Ponds this morning, I got to watch my buddy, GBH (Great Blue Heron), land on a stump in Delta Ponds.
I never seem to tire of my favorite bird, especially when I can get shots like this.

North and Middle Sisters, Oregon Cascades
This is a view of two of the Three Sisters in the Oregon Cascades. The image was made at the top of the Old McKenzie Pass on Hwy 242. I was standing near the Dee Wright Observatory looking out over the lava fields for this view. The Three Sisters are the third, fourth and fifth highest peaks in Oregon. Elevation of the North Sister is 10,085 ft. The Middle Sister is 10,047 ft. The South Sister, unseen in this view, is the tallest at 10,358 ft.

Down The Tracks
Foggy again this morning with a spot of sun. I walked to an industrial area where I could look down the tracks to the east. I liked the way the blue sky showed through the fog and clouds and the sun providing some highlights on the tracks. Industrial areas are not always pretty , but I iiked this scene nevertheless.

Red Shouldered Hawk
I shot this image this morning in dark, heavy fog. I did the best I could to bring out the beautiful colors the hawk and still maintain some detail, which required lightening the tone. If I had left the dark foggy appearance as It was the hawk would be too dark. Unfortunately, the fog played havoc with achieving sharpness and brightness in processing. Still, I was thrilled with what I got.

Famished Flock Feeding in Farmer's Field
While walking in Golden Gardens Park, I saw this large flock of geese dining in a farmer's field. I thought it would make a good panorama. (Three shot panorama)
How many are there? I counted 167, give or take a few!

The Beauty of the Forest
"It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit." (Robert Louis Stevenson )

Chatterbox
The jay bird (this one is a Western Scrub Jay) is known as a chatterbox. Slang(Wikipedia) - "The word "jay" has an archaic meaning in American slang meaning a person who chatters impertinently. Jays are several species of medium-sized, usually colorful and noisy, passerine birds in the crow family Corvidae." Even so, I enjoy them and welcomed this one to our backyard.
The bare stem with a few petals is all that is left of our volunteer Belladonna Lily (Naked Lady).

Dark Morning At The Ponds
It was a dark, wet morning at Delta Ponds. I got caught in a downpour. But I wasn't disappointed just the same. An egret flew in nearby and began to fish. Getting the white bird properly exposed meant darkening the rest of the scene. Plant life along the edge adds a beautiful element to the picture.

Today's Lineup
Early morning light did something magical to these bike racks in front of Autzen Stadium at the University of Oregon Sports Complex.
At least, I think it did! :)

The Sheer Beauty of Flight!
What a delight to see this Great Blue Heron take flight at the pond in Alton Baker Park! I marveled at the sheer beauty of such a big bird, so elegant in flight! I am sure you can understand why it's one of my favorites of all birds.

Fishing The Willamette
While visiting Clearwater Park in Springfield I saw these fishermen in the distance. I made this photo and then tried getting closer, walking along a makeshift path near the river. When it finally came out along the river about where I thought the fishermen would be, they were nowhere in sight. So this one will have to do. There were some fall colors showing. I thought it made a nice scene.
