I'm trying to figure out why the whites are so overexposed, while the rest of the scene is just right.

Nikon D2x
1/40s f/5.6 at 400.0mm iso800 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Matrix metering and extreme range between the white and the rest. There's really no way to get it all correct in a situation like this.
