It does appear that this could be a Rough-skinned Newt. If it is, it has poisonous skin.

Better knock on wood. The references I read gave warning about them being poisonous to the touch.

Hey, I haven't seen a Rough-Skinned Newt in what seems like forever. Did you know they will travel up to six or seven miles overland to find water/mate? You didn't touch it did you? They are poisonous.

He's a strange looking lizard. I've never seen one like that.
