There are hills and mountains not too far away. In fact, if a person heads to the Coast and Florence from here they will go over the Coast Range, which isn't too high. Going East out of Springfield will take you to passes over the Cascade Range, which are much higher. I do enjoy the view, even when the sky isn't blue.
