Photographing Along Middle Fork Path

While I was exploring this spot along the Willamette River for photographs, this nice lady came up and shot some pictures with her cell phone and off she went. It has been said that the best camera have is the one you have with you. For many, that's a camera phone. As my friend, Steve, says, it has taken over from the compact P&S cameras. Cell phones are amazing and capable. But I am still a camera guy. I carry a couple with me when out like this, but then the extra baggage never bothers me. I have done it for a long, long time.

A while back, I wanted to photograph that bench with the river behind it...but I thought something was missing. I had to wait for 20 minutes before I could talk a passing by person to sit on it long enuff for me to snap a couple of images. At least I hadda lotta time to plan camera settings and composition.

The cell phone technology keeps getting better. But, too many of those who have this as their primary camera, do not think about what their capturing. Which is not necessarily bad - they are enjoying the view. I suppose I cannot expect everyone to consider the view.

I think she's adjusting exposure compensation

Neat shot, Vern. Looks like she's balancing on the bench!

Easy to see why she wanted to take a picture!

Beautiful photo. I can remember first seeing phones with cameras in my visit to Japan in 2007. They are convenient in a pinch.

Your words are very true and the shot tells your story well. I notice that so many pics nowadays are by a mobile phone and are extremely good but perhaps the good quality gear is more satisfying and still has an edge, as your work shows. But, it is the "eyes" behind the camera, be it phone or traditional, that really make the photo! Composition is number one. Great shot here. V

Amazing how good the photos from cell phones are these days, but we like proper cameras don't we! v

Very true, Vern. While visiting Mexico I took most of my pictures by my phone, which is Huawei P9. It has great dual camera, and now Huawei just launched P10 model, which has even better camera.

Quality in pics has a price:weight!Happy to hear you can still carry this heavy rig.
Your efforts are always rewarded with excellent pics.

A pretty shot in petty light.

Lovely shot, Vern. A beautiful setting with wonderful light. I agree with Liz that this does indeed "tell a story of our times" with so many using their phone cams. :)

I'm also still a "camera girl". But there are times when I now reach for my Cell Phone Cam if I'm just out & about and unexpectedly spot something of interest. Even so, a Cell Phone is no match for a "real" camera. This image definitely tells a story of our times. Everyone is a photographer these days. Pretty lighting.
