Precarious Landing Site

Have you ever thought of the flying skill of the birds, particularly the large ones like this heron?
Look at the precarious landing sites they routinely use, here a nesting tree. It is amazing how those branches hold them up.
I am always in awe of these big birds!

It is completely amazing that they land and perch where they do. Makes you realize that they're a lot lighter than they look, doesn't it?

A great landing image, the branch does not look as if would stand the Heron's weight.

Great capture of this magnificent bird, Vern. Quite a wingspan, and I like the nesting bird on the right.

Great catch Vern. It does make you wonder how they can land on such a thin branch.

I wonder how they know which branches will hold their weight. Excellent catch!

Reminds me of trying to land and f16 on a carrier! Once you have landed it is ok but it is the touchdown that is scary!
