Kingfisher In Flight

I was startled while on a walk in Alton Baker park when something made a very loud splash.
I thought it might be a limb falling from a tree. All of a sudden, from beneath the water this Kingfisher came up and flew off. I was so taken back I got a total of three shots off, none of them good. But I had to post something to show the bird that startled me.
I didn't see anything in its beak, so guess it didn't catch anything. Still, it was a great experience. They are quite small and very fast.

Lovely capture of a normally very skittish bird.. You did very well with this shot, Vern.

That's a very nice shot of it, especially considering your circumstances!

Great catch Vern. They look bigger than our kingfishers.

That's a fantastic shot, Vern - I can practically feel the muscles thrusting those wings down.
Hank Vander Velde25-Nov-2012 02:00
You did well Vern. These birds are difficult to shoot in flight.

Great in-flight capture. The color of the bird is quite striking against the water.

When you described it in the Nikon group as not very good I was expecting a LOT worse than this. It's actually pretty good. Just getting a Kingfisher in flight is a good feat. They fly so fast.
