My First Camera

This is the first camera I ever owned, at least the first one I remember having. And yes, I still have it! It's called a Kodak Brownie Holiday Flash.
I prefer the picture in B&W, in keeping with the times. :)

Love the simplicity of this on the old fabric. Shallow DOF wonderful. Excellent!!!

A great pleasure to see such a marvel ! V.

Good idea to show our first cameras, you were clearly well heeled having a flash. I had a Coronet Flashmaster (without the flash).

Lovely piece of gear.

Nice old camera. I have a version on my desk, but I've never shot one with film in it.

That is wonderful. I have no idea what happened to the first one I owned. Somehow, it got lost in the clutter of life and I have not seen it in years. Good find.

What lovely vintage toy!:-) Perfect choice of tone!
Tom Munson01-Jul-2012 15:01
A step back in time. It's still looks like new.

Gosh , who among us did not have one of those! I remember how fascinated I was with the flash bulb. You are right, this pic had to be b/w. The camera was from the days before there was color! ;-D

Very nice "vintage" photo.

Blast from the past!

You might be able to find film but I'll bet you would never find any flash bulbs. My first was also a Kodak box camera but I forget what the model was.
Ruth Voorhis30-Jun-2012 13:02
I had a simpler box-style camera when I was a child, also a Kodak (I think).
Hernan E. Enriquez30-Jun-2012 07:06
So nice, don't ever get rid of it!
Steve Thuman30-Jun-2012 06:09
A handsome camera. I don't believe flash bulbs are made anymore, but you can still get them.

Looks a lot like the Brownie I remember using as a kid.

Amazing! What a beauty Vern...I guess you must be a pack rat.

I recall having a similar model. But i did not have a flash unit. Film waa heap but devoping costs were discouraging. Plus you had to wait to see the photos. As a contrast, a grand nephew at age 4 was given a kiddies digital camera - with big grip handles and a little screen that showed instantly what he had. He spent an afternoon clicking away totally delighted.

Looks just like my Mom's old camera.
Dan Greenberg29-Jun-2012 23:08
That's a great first camera, Vern. Much better than my first - which used 127 film. I got it on Christmas in 1967 when I was 10. Not sure where it ran off to. I still have my first real camera, a Nikon FM, purchased 10 years later. Great shot of this one.

Looks to be in good nick still, must have a kind owner!
Bob Moeller29-Jun-2012 21:40
The question is, "When was the last time you used it?"
Laura Milholland29-Jun-2012 21:29
Boy does that look familiar! My parents had one like this too. I had a little Kodak Brownie that I won at a contest when I was about 12.

John Reynolds LRPS29-Jun-2012 18:14
A great looking old camera. You couldn't be discrete with the flash back then could you!
Walter Otto Koenig29-Jun-2012 17:48
Great that you still have your first camera. Looks to be in good shape, and yes, much better in b&w.
Ed Duverger29-Jun-2012 16:49
Makes me think about old B&W movies
David Jolley29-Jun-2012 16:19
Nice job. Mine was a Brownie Box Camera, it to 620 film I believe.
Stephanie29-Jun-2012 16:16
What a fabulous old friend! If I remember correctly, flashbulbs were VERY expensive back then (let alone the film).
JSB PHOTOGRAPHS29-Jun-2012 16:06
