These new buses are 63 feet long and are diesel/electric powered. They are built by New Flyer of Canada. Lane Transit here in Eugene wanted a unique design for this new service and this is what was developed for them. One other system in the US also purchased the design, I think it might be in Minnesota. Otherwise they are unique to this transit system, though I would guess that likely some will be ordered by other systems as they become aware of them and have a use for them. Being diesel/electric, they seem quick and quiet.

This first EMX route is about 70% on dedicated, separate lanes for the buses and they have Queue Jumpers at intersections to allow the buses to go first before other traffic. They don't have complete signal prioritization but do have the ability to get a jump on other traffic. A second route is already in the planning stages and a third under consideration.

This form of bus rapid transit is a hybrid system, hoping to use some of the features of light rail to speed up bus service on major thoroughfares. It is more practical and attainable for smaller transit systems.
