THE GERMAN FLYING SPY CAMERA

(Singapore Vintage Cameras Museum)
THE DOPPLE SPORT PIGEON CAMERA invented in 1905 was used
by the German Army during WWI to spy on French troops.
Homing pigeons, with small aluminium cameras with a one-shot
panoramic lens attached to their breast, flew over the French lines.
Their mission was to photograph troop movement.

Amazing information for this very eye catching image. Love the clarity and value range while the reflections add so much to the background. A lot to see and appreciate. VV++

Interesting the ways and means troops sought information about "beyond no-mans'-land".

Great capture of these pigeon spies
Hank Vander Velde10-Nov-2018 15:12
I too certainly did not know they did that in 1905. Should be much easier now with our current technology and miniaturized equipment. Invisible cameras imbedded in bird-like drones perched or flying at will come to mind. Great shot and thought-provoking image and info Fong.
