Is there a real need to queue outside Louis Vuitton?

Luxury brands are now building larger and larger grandiose stores
to raise shopping to higher levels of ludicrous extravaganza.
These stores are swarmed with people year round, especially during sales period
and queue patiently to buy these so called luxury products that are mass produced
and sold world wide...so there is nothing exclusive about them.
This unhealthy consumption just encourages people to splash money on things
that are desired rather than needed, a desire spawned through hype and nothing else.

Fong,

I totally agree with your point. In HK, I always see hundreds of mainland visitors queuing up outside those luxury brands in Tsimshatsui and Central. I think people should spend their resources more wisely in education, infrastructure, science and technology, etc. to strengthen their country/enrich their lives rather than in buying these hollow luxury bags. Materialism has putting human being to an dead end by depleting the Earth's limited natural resources.

Beautiful image, Fong. We do live in materialistic times. Well done. V
globalgadabout19-Mar-2011 19:36
are there so many shoppers in Singapore with money to burn?...it's one thing to accumulate more than you need, as is Enny's well-taken point..in some ways that can be put down to enthusiasm...yet it is another thing to search out very expensive items to impress others with your buying power..that seems so vacuous...all that aside, this is an excellent image, skillfully made, and rich in the story it suggests...V

Beautiful colors, lighting, and details Fong...sometimes that culture is very snobbish and to fit in you have to keep up...sad, hence, the expression 'keeping up with the jones',but I never understood the trampling of others over sales at Christmas either...geez nobody needs anything that bad...all we have to do today is look at the tragedy's surrounding the globe to appreciate what we have, and to realize what we don't need. Personally I would be a bit embarrassed to walk around with a bag like that when I see hunger and homelessness and pain...suddenly things can seem so trivial. Nicely documented...V!

Luxurious goods became an obsession of people in the society these days . No one needs them , they just want them to be labeled stylish women and men .
iPad , LV purse, BB cell phone , Prada eye glass to name a few for a modern and high profile women . LOL .
Good photo , Fong . That is what it counts to me .
Tom LeRoy19-Mar-2011 16:44

On Tuesday there were approximately 200 people waiting outside of the Apple store to buy the new iPad 2. I do not understand this mentality....
BUT, I do understand the love of wanting to own just one beautiful LV purse.....
Beautiful lighting Fong! V

Well stated Fong. People can be sheep and they should be taught at a young age to think for themselves. There are better things to do with money than self indulge.
Also what a great journalistic photo.

well captured and well said Fong! You dont seem to be a fashion victim LOL I would buy me a LV handbag... just for curiosity, to see whether they are really so good haha V
Walter Otto Koenig19-Mar-2011 14:37
A syperb night shot with great clarity and a perfect exposure. I could not agree more with your commentary. When the iPad first came out Louis Vuiton produced a sleeve for it that cost more than the iPad itself. It is most unfortunate that these brand names have such popularity. "V"
