This gallery shows the work done over 2 days, to restore the condition of a Hot-box detector site.
This equipment scans the bearings (boxes) and wheels of passing trains, and measures their temperature. Alarm conditions are radioed to the train crew, who would immediatly stop and inspect the train.
After a time, the ties wear out, and the ballast rock fills up with mud and becomes soft. This site is some 20 years old and needs re-doing again.
After the weekend, I went back to inspect, and the computer logs show no errors for some 20 trains, thats around 6000 axels!
Congratulations to the track crew for an excellent job!
