Ichimatsu

La Veta, CO

"Ichimatsu" was the surname of a famed Kabuki actor who specialized in female roles. Dolls bearing that name are typically dressed in exquisite kimono. They were traditionally given to new wives as they entered the household of their new mistress, the dreaded and harsh mother-in-law. Ichimatsu was often her closest and only friend.

This doll is about 13 inches (31 cm) tall.
