NIKON Z9 - D6 Shoot-Out

I take the Nikon Z9 mirrorless and D6 DSLR Flagships and shot heads up with each other

Recently I photo’d a polo match, using the Z9 and D6 cameras. Both were set at 1/1600th auto iso. The Z9 w/ 500mmPF at f6.3,
the D6 w/ 200-500 lens, at f7.1. Both cameras were loaded with the ProGrade 128 gig cards. Both camera sets were tripod mounted, Wimberley II head on both tripods.
Using the Z9 I noticed the shirts look brighter and over-blown to near fluorescent thru the viewfinder (especially the lime green and bright orange).
The camera was set to 9 fps continues and never missed a beat. Worked super and was a pleasure to use. I exposed 499 NEF images; every photo was tack sharp with no missed focus.
All photos were acceptable for use, hard to cull out such nice mages. The battery was at 55% on the Z9. I did not use the original battery, used ENEL 18C.

Moved to the D6. The camera was set to 10 FPS, never missed a beat. The view was much cleaner thru the finder and the jerseys look spot on real as they were. No blown out look,
clean and clear, better than the Z9 viewfinder view. Also, the ergonomics with the larger comfortable grip was much better, such a pleasure to use.
And, no missed focus, tack sharp which was another pleasure, as I had seldom used it since the Z9 arrived a few months ago. I ripped off 380 NEF images, 87% battery remaining on the D6.

Viewing and editing the images was near jaw dropping with the Z9, which I edited first. Darn near perfect right out of the camera, color and exposure was smack on,
which I expected as I use it daily and know it well. The D6 was a bit higher in contrast and required a bit of edit work to match the Z9 photos.
This may be due to the 200-500 zoom lens, clearly not the quality of the 500 prime. And the out of focus tree line in background was much smoother with the prime over the zoom lens.
Still, I like the Z9 images and give it the thumbs up,
love the D6 for the usual Nikon looks and comfy handling, along with the fantastic images. I’ll keep both, no doubt there.
