Washington Park 2014 04 (Apr) 13

Hiking time: 264 minutes and 59.00 seconds, or 4 hours and 25 minutes. Started at parking lot on Cornell Ave at Upper Macleay Park. The Wildwood Trail crosses Cornell at this point. I headed down the Wildwood Trail through the famous old growth forest that runs right through Portland. It runs into the Lower Macleay Park Trail and drops down to an elevation of about 90 feet. Then I turned around retracing my steps to the parking lot then continued on the Wildwood Trail to the Pittock Mansion at an elevation of about 1,000 feet. Then I turned around and retraced my steps to the car. This is a 5 mile round trip hike. I wasn't even tired at the end.

Took 156 photos (taking up 3,964,952,364 bytes including both JPEG and raw images) of which 101 made the first cut and 79 made the last cut. I wanted to take a lot of pictures because I'm enjoying breaking in my new gaming mouse and pad, aside from the fact that there's a lot of interesting sights on this hike.

The trails were absolutely crawling with people. I started out at 8:30 in the morning when the temperature was 45°, and so I wore my jacket, gloves, and purple beanie over my ears. but with bare legs wearing my new shorts, compliments of my REI rebate. By the time I got back to the car the first time, the temperature had climbed to 55°, and so I left my jacket in the trunk and went on, still wearing my gloves. But by the time I got to the Pittock Mansion, the temperature had climbed to 60° and so I took off my gloves and turned up my beanie above my ears. By the time the hike was completed, the temperature had climbed to 65° and by the time I arrived back home it was up to 70°, which might be the warmest day this year. The sky was perfectly clear and I got fairly decent shots of Mt. Hood at the Pittock Mansion overlook. However, in the woods, the lighting confused the camera (as it always does in heavy shadows on a sunny day) and a lot of these images had a blue cast which I removed in Lightroom.

After processing all these images in Lightroom and thoroughly exercising my new mouse and pad, I'm ecstatic about getting rid of that Logitech $379 piece of trash.
