Pacific Crest Trail, Cascade Locks to Herman Creek, Columbia Gorge, Oregon, U.S.A. 2015 03 (Mar) 26

Total hiking time: 8 hours and 3 seconds. Estimated total climbing: about 2,000 feet over a round trip distance of 11 miles. The hike started at Cascade Locks on the Oregon side of the Columbia Gorge, where the Pacific Crest Trail crosses the Columbia River, and proceeds into Oregon to the junction with the Herman Bridge Trail (405E), an offshoot of Herman Creek Trail (405). From its beginning at the Pacific Crest Trail, the Herman Bridge Trail descends 500 feet to the only north end bridge crossing of Herman Creek, a one way hike of 5.5 miles from Cascade Locks.

Started out wearing two thick long-sleeved, pullover, polyester shirts and driving gloves because the temperature was in the middle 40's F. Hiking times: 1 hour, 29 minutes, and 8 seconds to from start of hike to Dry Creek Falls. 10 minutes, 5.48 seconds photographing Dry Creek Falls. 6 minutes, 24.93 seconds returning 1/3 mile and descending 150 feet to Pacific Crest Trail. 1 hour, 16 minutes, 54 seconds to The Pinnacles. 27 minutes, 1.51 seconds, eating lunch and photographing The Pinnacles. 1 hour, 10 minutes, and 42 seconds to Herman Creek. 28 minutes and 5.26 seconds photographing Herman Creek and changing into a single, thin, short-sleeved, polyester shirt, because temperature rose to the mid 60's F. From the Herman Creek bridge, it took 2 hours, 51 minutes, and 40 seconds to boogie back to the car.

My toes were in burning pain by the time I got back, but no permanent damage or any after effects. The route has many scenic attractions and tons of ups and downs, but this route is not strenuous and has no real problems, and no blow downs. Lots of mud near the beginning of the hike. Until I suffered through the last 1.5 miles and steep 600 foot descent, the hike was lots of fun.

Took 275 photos (without a tripod), of which 138 made the cut.
