This is a photo of a topo map a few dozen feet from the trailhead. It shows that car route to the Vista Ridge Trail I wound up at isn't remotely connected to the road I dead-ended at. Further map studies are demanded if I ever want to really hike the supposedly much easier Vista Ridge Trail.
