Now 2.5 humiliating hours later and a measly 1.8 miles and 300 feet of descent, I arrive at the Columbia River Scenic Highway safe and practically sound and unpack my camera for hand-held studies of the awesome cliffs around Oneonta Gorge. After spending 15 minutes sitting on the ground eating lunch, I stand up, not a bit tired or sore and none the worse for wear (how could I be after such a short hike -- the nine hours it took notwithstanding), and take this and the following pictures.
