Now on on the edge of the White River Canyon, the flat ridge in the lower left is the one I used to walk to the end of before the White River washed out the bridge. They rebuilt it the next year, and it was promptly washed out again and now they'd (apparently permanently) give up the task of bridging this rambunctious, unpredictable river. The extremely active White River Glacier, full of lakes below 100 or more feet of ice, that suddenly give loose every now and then, sending torrents down the river, sometimes even washing out U.S. Highway 35, the major artery on the east side of Mt. Hood.
