Watkins Glen

These are images that I took when attending races at Watkins Glen Road Course. I have hundreds of other images that I will try to edit from the early 70's to the mid eighties ( the Grand Prix era ).Many of these shots I have not looked at in 2o or more years. Most of the photos were made with a Minolta SRT-101 with either a 200mm Vivitar or a 400mm Soligor. The vintage Sports Cars were taken at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival in 2009 and 2010.

We were sitting in our RV when we noticed the black smoke coming from 'the bog'. Went over later that evening to investigate the source of the flames, and there it was - a Greyhound scenic cruiser laying on its side in a very scorched condition. The people were standing on it yelling "we want a Winnebago - we want a Winnebago" to say it was one of the craziest evenings of my life is a real understatement. Great photos and memories. Thanks

a lovely collection, and yes many memories, late 60's for me, stopped going when all our favorites died. Watkins Glen has a slide show and historical collection, they might be interested in your collection. Thanks for the post

Wow - time warp. I was also at the Glenn and Mosport. Travelled with Gord Kirby who did the coverage in N.A. for Autosport Magazine. This got me a photographers pass, so I was against the guard rails for these races. Great stuff. Thanks for the great shots. Nice to be able to still call out the names of the drivers and the different cars as they appear. They are not forgotten, when we use to loose 2 to 3 drivers some years. I need to go find my slides.

Thanks for the many memories, I used to work race communications track side in the 70's. I need to scan my slides to have the memories in digital. I remember Reter Revson, Pedro Rodriguez and the others, used to love the sound of the Matra's as they down shifted at the end of the long straight.
